Plant Information
Asparagus Fern
What do ferns and dinosaurs have in common? They were both present in the Mesozoic era. Ferns are one of the oldest living things dating back 300 million years ago! Unlike the dinosaurs, the ferns escaped extinction and thrive in their natural habitats or in landscaped gardens on every continent in the world. These full, lush plants are not actually ferns though, but members of the lily family (Liliaceae). Their long, arching stems are densely covered with short, needle-like leaflets giving the plants a delicate appearance.

Grow your own collection of feared and famous meat-eating plants.  This kit features the infamous Venus Fly Trap. Watch these fascinating plants grow from harmless seeds into vicious bug-eating monsters!  The leaves of a Venus Fly Trap are covered with fine hairs.  When an insect lands on the plant, the pressure on these hairs causes the jaw-like foliage to snap closed, trapping the insect inside. Make your own authentic bog with the included peat planting mix, Blood Rocks (genuine collectable Red Calcite) and competitive fun frog!  With proper care, this rare and unusual collection of carnivorous Fly Traps will flourish for years in the specifically designed terrarium.

Plant Information
Fly Traps
The famous Venus Fly Trap, a native of coastal North and South Carolina, forms a hinged trap that typically has three little triggers on the inside of each half. When an insect touches one of the triggers, the plant gets ready to spring into action. When the same or another one is touched, the trap quickly slams shut. Digestive enzymes secreted by glands within the trap decompose the insect’s body. The trap will open again in a week or two to capture another meal.
